Civil Servants To Receive Salaries Before 24th Every Month – Finance Minister
MONROVIA, Nov. 19 (LINA) – Liberia’s Finance Minister, Augustine K. Ngafuan has assured employees of the Government of Liberia of timely disbursement of salaries moving forward aimed at improving the livelihood of the citizenry.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) boss emphasized that employees of ministries, agencies, commissions etc. will receive their salaries on or before the 24th of every month beginning November 2024.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Ngafuan disclosed that to implement such a task, the Government of Liberia has taken action including reengineering business processes.
He added that the Government has also barred unavoidable technical and other exogenous challenges to enable all government employees to be paid on or before the 24th of every month.
The MFDP Boss maintained that the Government of Liberia has begun the full roll-out of this new reengineered payment process, explaining that government workers have already begun to receive salaries on Friday, November 15th while employees of government at upwards 40 government spending entities accounts have already been credited.
Meanwhile, Minister Ngafuan emphasized that in the draft budget for FY2025, President Joseph N. Boakai has authorized the allocation of more than US$16 million to fund the first set of measures in a multi-year effort aimed at addressing some of the payment concerns and challenges in the public sector.
"We have allocated funds to ensure that beginning January 2025, no central government employee earning monthly gross salaries below the US$150 minimum as provided for in the Decent Work Act of 2015 will receive less than US$150 as monthly gross salary". Minister Ngafuan assured.
He pointed out that the allocation of US$2.6 million in the FY2025 budget is to enable the ministries of Health and Education to begin the multi-year process of addressing the perennial issues of volunteer workers after an exhaustive and thorough vetting exercise.
The MFDP Boss stated that the Government of Liberia recognizes that the cost to fully put all volunteer workers on the payroll is around US$15 million, which the government cannot fully afford in the FY2025.
