Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs and Tourism
Your humble servant, Kadiatu D. Konteh-Brohiri, currently serves as the Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism. I was born and raised in Montserrado County, Liberia. My mother is from Benduma in Grand Cape Mount County, and my father hails from Mendekoma in Lofa County. My early career focused on Public Information, International Relations, Conflict, Peace, Culture, and Tourism.
I have previously served as the Press Attaché to the Minister of Education and as the Director of Communications for the Ministry of Education. Following that, I worked with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in the Public Information and Media Development unit. After relocating to the United States, I worked with the Maryland Department of Public Safety in Public Affairs and with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS/FEMA) as a Program Specialist. Additionally, I served as a Disaster Recovery Specialist with the Small Business Administration, Office of Disaster Assistance.
Most recently, I was a Team Member with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Washington, DC, where I was deployed to Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, and Romania, and played a key role in resettling Afghan refugees in the United States.
I am an active volunteer ambassador with the United Nations Association, Washington DC Chapter (UNA-NCA) and a contributing expert with the Madiba Foundation International, a non-profit organization based in Bonn, Germany. I have also served as the Public Affairs Officer for the Liberian Association in Maryland and as the Vice President of the Association of Liberian Journalists in the Diaspora (ALJA). Currently, I volunteer with the Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps.
I hold a Master’s degree in Conflict and Peacebuilding from American Military University, a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security, and am a 2003 Graduate Fellow from the Johns Hopkins University International Relations Program. I am also an expected 2024 graduate from the University of Maryland with an MA in Emergency Management and Management Science. My undergraduate education includes a BA in Mass Communications & Sociology from the University of Liberia and a diploma with honors in ticketing and cargo handling from Morris Airline Community College. Additionally, I was a Radio and Television presenter for Ducor Broadcasting Corporation (DC101) in Monrovia, Liberia.
