The Acting Chairperson of the Governance Commission (GC), Professor Alaric Tokpa, has described collaboration as key in achieving systematic public reform in Liberia.

Speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Governance Commission, Liberia Institute of Public Administration and the Civil Servant Agency at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on October 1, 2024, Professor Tokpa stated that the internal governmental collaboration among the three agencies is aimed at promoting public sector reform in keeping with government's ARREST agenda.

He added that the MoU is a great milestone for public sector collaboration in Liberia, adding that the relationship is not new but all about reactivation to showcase and enhance effective and efficient public sector reform in the country.

Tokpa said signing the MoU is evidence in strengthening the GC commitment to the collaboration and coordination as a partnership agreement between the three government agencies.

Meanwhile, Chairman Tokpa said turning national vision into policy is important by engaging national and international stakeholders to join efforts in promoting public sector reforms.

"Public sector reforms must be backed by political will by the government, this is key in moving forward,” he said.

Chairman Tokpa on behalf of the Governance Commission committed to fully cooperate with the agreement signed.

The Governance Commission is the premium policy-think-tank of government with the convening power to promote good governance by advising, designing, and formulating appropriate policies and institutional arrangements and frameworks required for achieving good governance and, at the same time, promoting integrity at all levels of society and, within every public and private institution.

For his part and on behalf of the Government of Liberia, Deputy Information Minister for Technical Services, Daniel O. Sando, thanked the three agencies for the collaboration.

He added that the MoU signed among the three government institutions demonstrates the Government's commitment in advancing public sector reforms.

Minister Sando urged the team to do more, adding that before the government sets up its developmental agenda, it's important to ensure public reforms.
