Liberia Receives 400 Million Yen In Rice Aid From Japan

 The Governments of Liberia and Japan on September 12, 2024, formalized an exchange of notes, marking the donation of a consignment of assorted rice valued at 400 million Japanese Yen. 

This generous contribution is part of Japan's Kennedy Rice (KR) Food Aid program and is intended to be monetized by the Liberian government to support various socio-economic initiatives that are not covered by the national budget.

According to a dispatch from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the official signing ceremony took place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in the Minister's conference room at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia.

During the signing, Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, hailed the signing ceremony as a significant step in deepening the partnership between Japan and Liberia.

For his part, Japan's Ambassador to Liberia, Mochizuki Hisanobou, emphasized Japan's dedication to the KR food assistance program, highlighting the significance of rice to many Liberian households.
