The former Presidential Candidate of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP), Cllr. Tiawon Saye Gongloe, has commended President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. for implementing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, especially the move to establish the War and Economic Crimes Court.
He noted that the TRC was established to “promote national peace, security, unity and reconciliation,” and at the same time make it possible to hold perpetrators accountable for gross human rights violations and violations of international humanitarian law that occurred in Liberia between January 1979 and October 2003.
He also commended the Liberian leader for his interventions in roads development especially on some major highways in the country, during the first three months in power.
He named efforts made in improving the environmental conditions of Liberia, the credibility of the Liberia passports, the requirement of motorcyclists to wear helmets and to restrict the number of passengers, the revocation of illegal diplomatic passports, amongst others as positive steps toward the improvement of the country.
Speaking at a news conference held at his office in Monrovia on September 6, 2024, Cllr. Gongloe said the Government should be commended for its initial steps in cleaning Monrovia and Paynesville in the first three months.
He further said that President Boakai scored a historical point recently when he increased the number of women on the Supreme Court Bench, emphasizing that for the first time in the history of Liberia, there are three women justices on the Supreme Court Bench.
