Liberia Telecommunications Authority Launches Social Media Monetization Training Initiative

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority proudly announces Meta and TikTok monetization training for Content Creators on May 6th and 7th at the Bella Casa Hotel on 3rd Street. The Ministries of Information and Youth Sports are working along with the LTA in the selection of 150 participants.

Content Creation broad category includes: comedians, storytellers, challenge creator, reaction video makers and a variety of content producers who prioritized audience enjoyment.

About Meta

Meta is an American multinational technology company that owns and operates several prominent social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads. Meta’s monetization tools are currently active in eight African countries, including Ghana. LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi met with certified Meta executives in Lagos, Nigeria, earlier this year, laying the groundwork for this national training. Meta’s eligibility for monetization requires creators to be at least 18-year-old, compliance with community standards, and a minimum follower threshold. Monetization also requires supported banking infrastructure for direct payments. The Meta training will cover content creation tools, high-performing content techniques, hands-on creation sessions, monetization opportunities, social media ethics, and best practices.

About TikTok

TikTok is Chinese-owned with massive global traction, particularly among Gen-Z. Its algorithms allow new creators to go viral quickly through short videos, live streaming, filters, and animation tools. In March, LTA Commissioners Patrick Honnah and Ben Fofana met with TikTok executives in Nairobi, Kenya.

Monetization on TikTok requires a nation to have data protection laws, payment infrastructure, tax frameworks, and sufficient local advertising investment. Currently, no African country meets all three requirements.

The Department of New Media at the Ministry of Information is overseeing the applications intake process. All Content Creators wishing to participate in the In-House training are to apply IN PERSON between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 pm. Monday April 13 thru Friday April 17th, 2026.

Please submit a written application stating what content you create and how the training will advance your work.

Content Creators have eagerly awaited this training opportunity for monetization engagement. Our desire is that after the two-day training, our local Creators will be encouraged to produce higher quality engaging content.

Social Media monetization acts as a catalyst for digital entrepreneurship, allowing individuals to circumvent traditional barriers to entry into the formal economy, generating direct, tangible income.

The LTA is proud to facilitate this opportunity for our Content Creators; Certificates of Participation will be awarded at the close of training. Live streaming will be available for everyone unable to attend the Bella Casa training which is limited to 150 participants.
