UP Calls On GOL To Expedite Audit Process, Prosecute Corrupt Officials
MONROVIA, Nov. 18 (LINA) – As part of a broader effort to restore accountability in the public sector, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Unity Party (UP) has urged the Government of Liberia (GOL), headed by President Joseph N. Boakai, to accelerate the auditing process and take swift legal action against officials implicated in corruption.
In a resolution adopted at a two-day meeting held from November 16-17, 2024, in Monrovia, the UP National Executive Committee highlighted corruption and a lack of integrity as major impediments to effective governance and called on President Boakai to investigate, dismiss, and prosecute any current or former government officials found guilty of corruption or activities that undermine public trust.
“We strongly urge our political leader and President to investigate, remove, and prosecute any current or former officials involved in corruption or actions that weaken public confidence and hinder the objectives of this administration,” the resolution stated.
The Unity Party emphasized that accountability was a key promise made to the Liberian electorate during the campaign and fulfilling this promise is crucial for building trust and ensuring efficient government operations, urging the administration to hold offenders accountable without fear or favor.
To foster a more transparent and effective government, the resolution also called on Cabinet Ministers and Heads of Government Agencies to secure cabinet approval for decisions that carry significant implications for the public and the nation.
At the same time, the UP National Executive Committee pledged its support for a collaborative governance approach under President Boakai’s leadership. “This process is vital for ensuring due diligence and upholding accountability before communicating major decisions to the public,” the committee emphasized.
The party executive committee reaffirmed its support for President Boakai’s commitment to continuous monitoring and evaluation of ministries, agencies, commissions (MACs), and local government entities.
This oversight, the party noted, is essential for delivering on the administration’s "ARREST" agenda, a framework aimed at addressing corruption and promoting good governance.
The UP National Executive Committee disclosed that the party’s National Secretariat and Office of Governmental Affairs will be responsible for coordinating the monitoring and evaluation process and will submit recommendations to the President, ensuring that the government remains effective, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the Liberian people.
In its resolution, the ruling party also resolved to regularly engage cabinet ministers and heads of agencies to provide progress reports on governance.
The UP National Executive Committee expressed belief that these updates will keep the party informed about the state of national affairs and strengthen collaboration between the government and the party, ultimately enhancing service delivery to the Liberian people.
