MONROVIA, June 25(LINA) – The National Port Authority (NPA) has made a budgetary contribution of US$2 million to Liberia’s general revenue account after five months of operations under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Making the pronouncement Tuesday June 25, 2024, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, NPA Managing Director Sekou A.M. Dukuly, stressed that the US$2 million contribution is just a beginning, affirming that the NPA will make a similar contribution to the national revenue envelope of Liberia after every five months.
Dukuly, who displayed a symbolic check, said the current contribution by the NPA management is far more than the US$4 million which was contributed by authorities of the port in six years under the past CDC government.
“Let me say to you, that NPA as the gateway to our economy will do everything possible to support our economy, “Dukuly said.
He disclosed that the total revenue generated from all ports across the country over the past five months is US$13 million.
This gain, he said, prompted the management’s decision to contribute the said amount to the country’s revenue envelope.
The National Port Authority was created by an act of Legislature established in 1967 (amended in 1970) as a state-owned enterprise to manage, plan and develop all ports in Liberia. The Authority manages four ports, namely, the Freeport of Monrovia, the Port of Buchanan, the Port of Greenville and the Port of Harper.
