MONROVIA, Oct. 22 (LINA) – A group of lawmakers, identifying themselves as the majority block within the House of Representatives, has renewed calls for the removal of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, citing various concerns about his leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the group during a press conference held in Paynesville on Sunday, October 20, 2024, Nimba County District #2 Representative, Nyan Flomo, reaffirmed their commitment to seeing Speaker Koffa removed from his position.
The group claimed that Speaker Koffa has failed to effectively perform his official duties and has been involved in numerous violations of the House's rules, including allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest.
Rep. Flomo emphasized that their stance is firm, stressing that the leadership of the House should reflect the true will and aspirations of the Liberian people.
He stated that the lawmakers in the majority block are dedicated to restoring integrity and transparency to Liberia's leadership.
"We are committed to building Liberia’s future on the principles of justice, accountability, and good governance," Flomo said, underscoring that their decision is not motivated by personal interests but by a genuine desire to restore honor and respect to the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers, according to him, want Speaker Koffa's immediate resignation, arguing that he no longer possesses the moral or legal authority to lead the House.
Representative Flomo said that they are of the opinion that Speaker Koffa's continued leadership undermines the integrity of the legislature.
In their joint statement, the group declared that removing Speaker Koffa would restore dignity to the House and signal a return to ethical governance, vowing to persist in their efforts until their demand for his removal is met.
For nearly a week, a group of lawmakers from the House of Representatives have been circulating a resolution calling for the removal of Speaker Koffa. The group in an earlier resolution outlined multiple reasons for their action including allegations of poor leadership and mismanagement.
