Agriculture Minister Nuetah Begins Strategic Cambodia Visit Focused on Food Security and Agricultural Innovation
[Cambodia – May 20, 2026] — Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah has commenced an official six-day working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia aimed at strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation, promoting investment opportunities, and advancing Liberia’s agricultural transformation agenda.
The engagement from May 19–24, 2026, at the invitation of Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, H.E. Dith Tina, is part of Liberia’s wider initiative to modernize agriculture, increase local food production, and advance national food security.
The visit began with tours of rice fields and engagements with Cambodian agricultural stakeholders, offering firsthand exposure to Cambodia’s highly successful rice production systems, irrigation schemes, mechanization initiatives, and modern farming practices.
As part of the engagement, Minister Nuetah also toured the KHMER FOODS GROUP Rice Processing Plant in Kampong Speu Province. The company, which has more than 32 years of experience in the rice industry and is recognized globally for its high-quality rice products, provided valuable insight into large-scale rice processing, value addition, agro-processing systems, and modern agricultural business operations.
Minister Nuetah further held discussions with farmers, local leaders, and agricultural authorities focused on strengthening farmer-to-farmer exchange programs, attracting investment to Liberia’s rice and other food-crop value chains, and advancing technology transfer in areas such as seed development, irrigation, and modern farming techniques.
The Ministry of Agriculture believes Cambodia’s agricultural progress offers practical lessons for Liberia as the country intensifies efforts to reduce rice imports, expand domestic production, strengthen value chains, and modernize farming systems nationwide.
The Minister of Agriculture is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Cambodian authorities, engage public- and private-sector actors, tour irrigation facilities and mechanization hubs, and explore technical cooperation and agricultural investment opportunities that can support Liberia’s agricultural growth and economic resilience.
The engagement also underscores Liberia’s commitment to South-South cooperation and international collaboration to promote innovation, knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and sustainable agricultural development.
The Ministry of Agriculture remains committed to leveraging strategic partnerships to build a productive, resilient, and inclusive agricultural sector that improves livelihoods, empowers farmers, and contributes to national economic growth.
