The President recognized the historic nature of this election, as Pope Leo XIV becomes the first American-born Pontiff in the Churchโs two-millennia history. Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, Pope Leo XIV brings a wealth of pastoral experience, having served as a missionary and bishop in Peru and, most recently, as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops .
The Liberian Leader commended the new Popeโs commitment to peace, unity, and social justice, as reflected in his inaugural message: โPeace be with all of you!โ .
