Ministry Of Justice Announces Arrest Of Eight Escaped Inmates

 Through efforts of the joint-security forces of Liberia, the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has arrested eight of the 47 prisoners who broke jail at the Kakata Central Prison in Kakata City, Margibi County on Sunday, September 9, 2024.

"We wish to assure the public that all efforts are being made to locate and recapture the rest of the 39 prisoners still at large, and we will provide regular updates as we progress", a statement from the Ministry of Justice said, dated September 12, 2024, noted.

According to the Ministry of Justice, it remains adamant in searching the whereabouts of the runaway convicts, cautioning the public to join the joint-security efforts in locating and re-arresting the remaining escaped inmates.

The statement added: "The Ministry of Justice wishes to continually remind the public that harboring or aiding the escaped prisoners is also a criminal offense, and anyone found engaged in such an act will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law".

In addition, the ministry reiterated its call for the escaped convicts to turn themselves in to the nearest police station or to the Kakata Prison Authority to avoid additional charges.

The statement further noted that the Justice Ministry has made it clear that there will be no pardon if they refuse to turn themselves in, and when arrested by the security apparatus, the ministry will implement such criminal acts beyond their previous penalties, as additional charges', punishments have been repeatedly sounded.

"There will be no pardon if you are recaptured by the Liberia National Police and joint security forces. You will face additional charges should that happen in keeping with law", the MOJ cited.
