LiMA Holds Talks With Maritime, Port Authority Of Singapore

 The delegation of Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has met and held rewarding talks with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore around mutual cooperation and support.

The meeting was held on the margins of the Asia Decarbonization Summit, according to a dispatch issued Thursday September 13, 2024, by the Liberia Permanent Mission at the IMO.

The release stated that the Liberian delegation, headed by Mr. Robert Wilmot Kpadeh, met with the Chief Executive of the Singaporean Maritime and Port Authority H.E. TEO Eng Dih and other executives of the authority, and relished the honor of touring the world class Singapore Port/vessel control Center.

It quoted Liberia’s Permanent Representative, Kpadeh as saying, "discussions with the Singaporean Maritime and Port Authority were hugely successful and heartwarming, as various sectors of Liberia's maritime industry are poised to benefit in significant ways".

According to the dispatch, Permanent Representative Kpadeh stated that his delegation's discussions with the Singaporean focused on mutual cooperation, technical support, knowledge sharing, and Liberia's Maritime visionary plan to embark on building the country's 'Blue Economy' aimed at diversifying its revenue streams.

"Our Singaporean friends graciously pledged to give technical support to Liberia’s maritime industry by providing training opportunities for personnel across the broad spectrum of the country's maritime industry,"Kpadeh noted.

The Singaporean Maritime and Port Chief Executive intimated to the Liberian delegation that Singapore is very glad and deeply honored to share its experience and expertise with Liberia essentially with the view of strengthening and advancing Liberia's Maritime industry.

The statement asserted that both the Singaporean and Liberian delegations are expected to further discuss on the margins of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) summit scheduled for the last week of September 2024 in London.  The discussion of an imminent maritime pact between the two Maritime nations are expected to be finalized the London talks.

The Liberian delegation consists of Permanent Representative Robert Kpadeh and Alternate Permanent Representative and IMO MEPC's Chair Dr. Harry Conway.

Singapore is a leading maritime country and a Council Member of IMO, and its Sea Port is ranked amongst the 10th largest port in the world, with a burgeoning blue economy with every aspect of its marine industry fully functioning.
