President Boakai joins world leaders at first UN General Assembly as President

H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has joined world leaders at the start of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

This is the President’s first appearance at the General Assembly as President of Liberia. He previously addressed the world body in 2009 and 2011 as Vice President when he represented then President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

At the start of the gathering, President Boakai remarked that he was glad to be at the UN Headquarters where the world’s business is conducted; and that he was there to emphasize the message of peace and assure the world that Liberia was back on its path to growth and development.

World leaders gather every year at the United Nations headquarters in New York to debate issues of global concern and to advance solutions to global problems.

President Boakai will address the body tomorrow, Wednesday, September 25th, during the afternoon session.

This year’s theme for the General Assembly is: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
