SINJE, July 15, (LINA) – The Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL) and the Grand Cape Mount County Administration have concluded a day-long anti-corruption training for local government officials and county stakeholders.

Speaking during the opening of the one-day training in Sinje Town, Grand Cape Mount County on Friday, July 11, 2024, CENTAL Executive Director, Anderson D. Miamen expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing that such commitment speaks volume to the transparent nature of the leadership.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing information sharing, coordination, and accountability between officials and citizens.

Also, Grand Cape Mount County Administrative Officer, Isaac Johnson highlighted the importance of the training for new officials, who according to him, require a comprehensive understanding of their roles and responsibilities.

He cited concerns about overlapping functions among officials and expressed hope that the training would clarify roles and responsibilities based on the local government act.

"Already we have the issue, though it has not come as an official complaint, but some people are complaining that some officials are overlapping their functions," Johnson revealed.

He added: "So this training will help us get acquainted with the local government act.”

At the close of the event, Paramount Chief Jamilatu K. Watson of Porkpa District commended CENTAL for the valuable knowledge shared and pledged to help disseminate the information to other local chiefs.

She urged CENTAL to conduct similar training regularly to strengthen governance in the county.

Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the training aims to bolster good governance, decentralization, and ethical leadership within the county.

The training, which was attended by over 30 participants, covered a wide range of topics, including the principles of decentralization, the challenges and benefits of anti-corruption initiatives, and the significance of gender equality in local administration.
