LDEA Arrests Over US$100K Worth of Drugs in Sinkor, Monrovia

MONROVIA, Aug. 29 (LINA) – The Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Christopher Peters, has disclosed that the institution recently arrested over 100 thousand United States Dollars worth of Drugs in the 18th Street community in Sinkor.

According to the LDEA OIC, the consignment of drugs was arrested in the possession of a 36-year-old Ivorian national, identified as Abu Keita.

The LDEA official disclosed that upon the seizure of the illicit substances, an immediate test was conducted on August 22, 2024, citing that the substances were identified to be heroin and methamphetamine (Kush).

Addressing the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, The LDEA Boss disclosed that suspect Abu Keita has been investigated and charged for the possession, sale and distribution of narcotics substance in violation of Sections 14.89 and 14.85 of the 2023 Drugs Law amended, as well as Sections 10.4 and 10.2 of the Penal Law of Liberia. OIC Peters added that suspect Keita has been forwarded to court for prosecution.

The LDEA official narrated that the Kush substance seized weighed 1.8kgs, with a street value of US$36 thousand L$6,840,000 and heroin 1.8kgs, street value of US$81 thousand.

At the same time, the LDEA official stated that since his takeover at the agency on June 4, 2024, he and his team have managed to seize about UD$1.5Millions worth of drugs across the country.

He revealed that the agency is doing everything possible to minimize drug abuse by ensuring the arrest of drug traffickers, dealers and distributors.

The LDEA boss re-emphasized the LDEA’s commitment in combating drug related crimes in affected communities across the country.
