NDMA Launches Food Distribution For 22,000 Flood-Affected Victims

 The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has launched a food and non-food items distribution for over 20,000 vulnerable flood-affected victims in Monrovia and several other counties.

The initiative, which took place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Bong Mines Bridge Community in Monrovia, underscored the urgent needs of vulnerable communities impacted by severe flooding in the past weeks.

Speaking during the launch of the initiative, the Executive Director of the NDMA, Ansu V.S. Dulleh, emphasized the need for collective efforts to tackle the imminent threats of disaster in Liberia, referring to the flooding affecting these communities as a "human hazard."

He reiterated the agency's unwavering commitment to providing essential food and non-food items as vital sustenance and resources to safeguard the well-being of the flood victims.

For her part, Victoria B. Nimely, a resident of the Bong Mines Bridge Community, expressed excitement for the step taken by the government, urging them not to give up on the community in their efforts to alleviate the overwhelming situation, adding that, it shows a strong community spirit and hope for recovery amidst the challenges faced.

It can be recalled that since June 28, 2024, serious flooding has devastated many communities in Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Sinoe, Grand Cape Mount, Bong, Nimba, and Bomi Counties, affecting over 48,000 individuals.

Also, in September, the NDMA, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), launched an emergency cash transfer initiative for over 26,000 individuals impacted by recent flooding.
