LNP Probes Journalist Gyamfi For Possession Of Illegal Firearm

The Liberia National Police (LNP) is investigating a 28 year-old man identified as Nana Gyamfi for illegal possession of a firearm.

According to a statement from the Liberia National Police (LNP), Nana Gyamfi, a Liberian journalist was arrested on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 after a to a tip-off. Gyamfi is a staff of Klein Kwatekeh Radio Station located around the Capital By-pass in Monrovia.

The LNP statement also noted that the firearm was discovered in Journalist Gyamfi bag during the LNP search at Kwatekeh Radio Station, where he has been employed for about two weeks.

The Police preliminary investigation established that Gyamfi claimed that he obtained the firearm from an unidentified man in Johnsonville Community, where he currently resides, stressing that he carries the gun for his protection while commuting to work.

The LNP statement noted that suspect Gyamfi is currently in police custody, undergoing further investigation at their headquarters in Monrovia.

The LNP statement assured the public that it will continue to provide security for all, as the LNP expressed commitment to ensuring continuity in the enforcement of the laws of the country without fear nor favor. 

Meanwhile, the LNP statement urged the general public to report any suspicious activities or case in and out of their surroundings to the nearest police station.
